End of Psych: ICH – ES – ÜBER ICH
Leaflet
07/2021 07/21

End of Psych is an exhibition dealing with art revolving around idea of the three instance of the Freud’s psychoanalysis.
The first exhibition ICH is the ego in Freud’s psychoanalytical theory — it mediates between the instinctual desires of the id and the critical super-ego.
ES is the id — it refers to the unconscious structure whose content is the expression of drives (such as food drive, sex drive, death drive), needs (need for recognition, need to be accepted) and affects (envy, hate, trust, love). Central are the basic drives, the sexual drive (also “libido”) and the destructive drive (also “destrudo”).
ÜBER ICH is the Super-Ego — it refers to the unconscious structure in which social norms, values, obedience, morality, and thus, as an instance of command and prohibition, conscience are located.
The flyers visually represent these three instances in layout, typography and color. Red reflects the unconscious structures in ES whereas the green stands for the norms and values of the ÜBER ICH. Both colors merge together in a brown for the mediating ICH.
